Penstemon strictus Rocky Mountain is a Great Basin native perennial that not only attracts a diverse group of pollinators it is also an excellent attractor for beneficial insects. Evergreen foliage reaches a foot before sending almost 2 foot tall purple-ish flower stems with the apt common name “bearded tongue” for the flower opening. I have found the blooms vary their color from blue to purple to bi-color. This is a great plant to learn native gardening techniques with…very cooperative.
